Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2025 – Day 1

13 February 2025

The first day of the Sun Hung Kai & Co. Hong Kong Race Week 2025 opened with favorable winds across race tracks at Repulse Bay, Stanley Bay, and Po Toi, setting the tone for an exciting week of sailing.

29er Asian Championship

Race Officer Dave Norton set the 29er Asian Championship course just outside Beaufort Channel, north of Castle Rock. Norton noted, “The day started with 7-8 knots, building to 10 knots and gusting up to 18 knots. We had four solid races, averaging our target time of 30 minutes. It was a really good day.

Nineteen boats competed in this third edition of the championship. The fleet included U.S. entry Kevin Cason and Holland Vierling, Thailand’s Patcharaphan Ongkaloy and Kan Kachachuen, and 17 local Hong Kong teams. Defending champion Tiffany Mak paired up with her younger brother Raphael after the duo took 1st place at the recent Hong Kong 29er National Championship. They’re competing against strong rivals Cameron Law/Christopher Lam and Louis Polson/Ethan Kiu.

Tiffany and Raphael dominated the day with three wins, establishing a 7-point lead over the Americans. The Thai team placed 3rd after a countback.
